Befriending offers supportive, reliable relationships through volunteer befrienders. The results of befriending can be very significant. Befriending often provides people with a new direction in life, opens up a range of activities and leads to increased self-esteem and self confidence.

This wonderful feedback we received from a Daughter of one of our members perfectly shows the benefits of befriending:

What a Godsend the Forest Row Befrienders have been!” exclaimed my ninety four year old mother.

Three and a half years ago, Mum was living semi independently, but finding getting out a bit of a struggle and experiencing periods of loneliness, especially at weekends. “Solitary Saturdays” she called those distant days. A quick search on the Forest Row Community website found FRow Friends. This wonderful organisation matched Mum with a warm, lively, caring volunteer who visited Saturday afternoons and dispelled those feelings of solitude. Mum and her Befriender would chat for ages, or make trips out to the local Garden Centre to share their passion for plants, tea and tales from their nursing days. Even during the lockdown months, FRow Friends kept in touch and delivered welcome packs of goodies and activities to relieve the long days of isolation. “What a wonderful group!” said Mum at the FRow Friends Christmas Tea Party, as she shared conversation and delicious cake with other people and their befrienders. “Thank you, FRow Friends!”

We are always on the lookout for people to get involved in our befriending scheme, either volunteers or new members.
